HVX + Anamorphic Adapter = 2.35:1

i might be wrong, but there's no way to project or display this footage properly on standered projectors or TVs.

what's the point if you going to letterbox it to 16x9 anyway?

Because anamorphic does not mean 16x9... 16x9 = 1.85 while anamorphic is 2.35.

Ok, so I'm sorry to bring this thread back from the dead a second time (the first of which I commented with a :zombie_smiley: zombie).

I was curious if anyone has recently had tested an anamorphic adapter with the HVX or even better a 35mm lens adapter (I doubt this would work without major sacrifices in picture).

I am gearing up for a film I'm shooting in 2.35:1 and I would like to not have to simply crop my 720p image.

16x9 = 1.77

Panavision have their own version of a PL mount. Not compatible w/ PL mounts.

i just ordered the step down ring..i cant wait to use my anamorphic lens on the HVX, should be interesting, i will def. post my first test on here.

To bill totolo,

Yes, it's not. In reality it's the Us standard 1.85 reduced to 1.78 because of Europe or something.

1.85 is impossible to shoot on DV or HD unless you crop in post.

If you want to get technical 2.35 is not anamorphic, but rather 2.40 is.

2.35 was the original size of anamorphic, but 2.35 has not been used in a couple of decades. It's all 2.40

ok here is my first test with the HVX and anamorphic adapter.

My overall impressions is that if you want that Wide Angle Wes Anderson look, you got it, but i had to crop out parts of the image in post because vignetting was happening!

I say for piratical things, just shoot 16x9 and crop in post. or better yet, shoot with a normal wide angle, then crop in post hah.

That's some pretty awesome footage...I wish I had access to an anamorphic, cause I'd throw it on my m2 rig in a second and see what I could do.

Even if it wasn't on a M2, that's still cool stuff.

35mm anamorphics fitted for consumer still cameras(a normal mount) pop up on E-bay from time to time.......in fact just recently I found one, but the auction had ended a few weeks before...just my luck. Of course you'll only find 1.5 and 2, but even a 1.5 sounds super cool to me.....

Of course at 1.5 you'd need to crop a bit, but I think the end look would be worth it.

I think a good compromise would be 1 35mm anamorphic and 1 dvx anamorphic fitted straight onto the camera, and mix the footage where it's suited.
