HVX 202 Questions!

:dankk2:I'm PM on a low budget Conservation series here in New Zealand. I know nothing about cameras (sound familiar?) and our DOP is unavailable shooting a feature for the next month. I need questions answered real quick. It would be great if I could understand them, but I can pass it on to someone who can. Here are my questions:
1. We need a macro lens for the camera. Will be filming ants in close up
2. We need a telephoto lens (eg duck about 100m away)
2. Nightvision capabilities. Any suggestions.

The words "letus" and "Red Rock Micro" have been. Also been suggeted we shoot in HD (1080) and zoom in the edit suite. Would this work for both telephoto and macro needs? All suggestions are useful and apologies for my utter lack of knowledge.

Hey Stew,

For good macro shots, you'll need a ACHROMATIC DIOPTER - http://www.schneideroptics.com/Ecommerce/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?CID=1088&IID=904

I havent used one of these before however hopefully another member can jump in and talk about this abit more.

Century also make a nice 1.6x Teleconverter - http://www.schneideroptics.com/Ecommerce/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?CID=1074&IID=863

This should be good enough for your needs.

Protel in Auckland or Wellington are the dealers for Century Optics.. probably worth giving them a call in regards to the lenses and your needs. - http://protel.co.nz/

Nightvision, the HVX202 has no nightvision mode, your best option is to buy a small HDV Camera like the Sony HVR A1p, Tons on trademe at the moment. This is the easiest and cheapest way to get 1080i nightvision..

I'd definitely shoot 1080, even if you are cutting in standard def, its nice to have that extra resolution.

Letus and Red Rock Micro are both brands of 35mm Lens adapters. It gives you the option of using 35mm still camera lenses to get that 'filmic' shallow depth of field.

Let me know if you have any more questions.. Im based in auckland if you need anymore help.
