Hi All,
I will be travelling to India in couple of weeks and would really need advices from all of you who travelled Abroad.
I have the whole rig HVX200A with letus Ultimate,Nikon Lenses ,Zacuto support rig ,Swintronix chargers,Audio Microphones, cables, boompole etc etc.

I have the custom HVX200 zacuto Pelican case to hold the camera equipment .The pelican case doesn't have a lock and I am worried if It is safe to checking this luggage with the camera equipment.

I am thinking of leaving the Letus Ultimate with HVX200A in the Pelican case and checkin .Do you guys know if that Pelican case can be locked with TSA Approved locks somehow? As far as I have seen I couldn't figure out how to lock that case.

I would really appreciate any advices that would help me take my equipment carefully and safely.

Would buying an insurance help anyways?

I have to take all of them with me by flight .I don't have an option of shipping this stuff as I don't want to deal with the headache of customs guys in India.

Please pour in your suggestions

Thanks
Jay

I would highly recommend NOT checking your camera and Letus....I would check batteries, boompole, cables and clothes. The microphone i wouldn't check either. I know you're not supposed to have a ribbon mic in anything but normal pressures, but I would just want to be safe with a condenser mic as well. Trust me, your camera is much more important as a carry on than your gameboy. ;)

Hi Jcal,
Thanks for the advice.I have an NTG3 and AKG CK93 ,would it do any harm to the microphones I f I take them with cabin baggage?
Did you come across or heard of any theft from the baggages checked in as I don't have any experience taking any such stuff before.

Thanks
Jay

The other solution is FedEx. I just FedEx ed my camera today and I'm going to louisiana tomorrow by plane. I can track the package and everything. Pricey but so convenient.

I took an HPX-300, 15 inch Macbook Pro, Two AB batteries and charger, P2 Store, numerous Seagate portable hard drives and a few other things all in a ThinkTank backpack. The bag I had met all international standards. I also brought along a photographers vest so if they did weigh the backpack which was over weight I'd just pull stuff out and put it in my vest and then repack once I got past the gate.
Took this setup all the way to Africa with no problem. In fact, the toughest part was leaving Iowa on a regional jet. They wanted to gate check it and I told them it would fit without a problem and it did.

Yes, DO NOT check the camera. Camera equipment usually isn't considered part of the carry-on allowance, and you can get away with quite a bit. I keep the HVX in a small bag that carries only the HVX and a battery. Everything else (except for the laptop which is in the largest-size available carry-on bag that has valuable electronics, P2s, and a set of clothes) gets checked.

Hi All,
THanks for your valuable suggestions.I will take the camera equipment, letus Ultimate,Lenses ,microphones, mixer with cabin baggage and leave all the miscellaneous items like batteries, cables etc with checkin baggage.

Regards
Jayanth
