HD-100 is 500 lph? I've got to -----> . Try 700 in the following report and 700 in my test, and some other people I know as well  . The resolution "sweet spot" has to be defined to know where any camera get's the absolute best resolution/image.

The work on the HD-100 has already been done and it is more like this (which I concur).Click here for French page

Here is the English version Click here. (Thanks SJUser for babelfish)

IMO, the only decent footage I've seen so far is the desert video that Barry and Jarred posted earlier.

Did you not see the Basketball & Cheerleader footage? They looked fantastic. The Moviola footage was amazing as well.

People are still worried about the noise, of course it's a valid concern, but it's really not that noisy. I'd highly recommend you test one out for yourself and see how it fares for you.

I wouldn't call Kaku a hobbyist either, but his shooting style is dramatically different than what most of us here do; and its probably not representative of how the camera performs in a controlled environment like a film set.

Adam Wilt

Adam Wilt

This whole thread is why we need Adam Wilt to come in and weigh in on all of the HVX and HDV madness.

Right now there are people that can be viewed as partisans for specific cameras (Barry, et al), and there are people with enough information to be dangerous.

I want Adam Wilt to come in, test them all in identical situations. If he tells me that the vertical resolution is 600, it's 600.

All of these tests aren't controlled, or if they are, the control is in hands of well-meaning, but unskilled folks.

These cameras have only been out for months, and there are still lots of questions about where each of them falls down.

Adam, if you're reading this, throw us a frikken bone.

I agree that the basketball footage looked great, but that was in very bright lighting with tons of stuff happening in the picture to mask noise and artifacting. The moviola stuff was riddled with it... I couldn't watch it for more than a few seconds.

I think both of those were shot with preproduction cameras, however... I still don't think we've really got any decent production footage to work with. People don't know what detail or even what gain they've been shooting with, saying things like "I don't know how I shot it... I only had it for a few minutes when I took it out of the box!" or worse yet, some clips are literally one or two seconds... which doesn't give us time to process much of anything.

I am going to do some extensive shooting in a lot of different conditions when I get the camera and I'll post it for people to see. Unfortunately, like every other person on this website, I'm still waiting (and waiting...)

I have a sinking paranoid feeling that we will all be waiting a long long long time... I wonder if part of the reason for delays would be to fire up more hype. Yea, yea, its better to release small numbers at first to keep QC numbers up, but it wouldn't hurt panasonic none to take their time a little bit to create more of a feeding frenzy..but then again, use forum users are one niche of the total market share..

Well I shot the Basketball and cheerleader footage and I can tell you there wasn't as much light as you might think. Most of the time I was at f2 or f2.8 at tele. And I should have been using a faster shutterspeed for the overcranked BBall like I did for the cheerleaders. I've been watching all this stuff on a 850 line HD-SDI Sony CRT refrence series HD monitor, and I'm blown away with how good it looks, even when there is a little noise like in the Garage test it's very film like. As far as I can tell it performs exactly like an HD-DVX, same kind of response, a little less sensitive, more DR and a little cleaner in good light but over all the same basic feel with a lot more detail. Unfortunately I think quite a bit of noise is introduced in playback on LCDs. Because I can't see the ugly blocking on my HD-CRT at all. I'll know more next weekend. I have three shoots including a national commercial and Green screen stuff I'm filming on the HVX next weekend. I'll update as I can.

Please do. :) I think what all of us need is more, quality footage from this camera to alliviate concerns. What's being made available right now is less-than-stellar.

Curious, you can shoot F2 at full tele? That's something I wasn't aware of before.

what ever happened to the footage that was shot for the camera launch at DVExpo west back in december - the john brannen music video shot by michael caporale? was that ever posted anywhere?

So you should be pleased to hear that Adam is one of the participants in our four-way comparison... I also tried to get Graeme Nattress but he's not going to be in town. I have others I've asked who haven't gotten back yet.

No, it's 2.8 at full tele. But obviously not all the basketball stuff was at full tele. A lot was, because we were always on the baseline so when you're shooting the opposite basket, it's full tele, but when they're down on your side it's obviously not.

are you referring to the keys or the video in general? i'm hoping to see how the footage keyed... was it all greenscreen stuff?
Eh, kinda both... but mostly the video in general. I think the keying has been pretty decent from the camera... it seems to be somewhat easy to work with, at the very least. Every example I've seen of keyed footage from the HVX has had that subtle "blockiness" around some of the edges (like the guy's ear in the example that was posted in this topic), but I think in a moving environment, it's not entirely too bad. Getting consistent lighting and depth of your subject and background so it looks like the person actually belongs in front of where he's being keyed is probably the more important part. I think a large part of the reason that I didn't like the keying from that music video was that it didn't look realistic at all... not because there were limitations on the keying itself.

Even that is pretty nice. What was the DVX capable of at full tele?
