Hi everybody...
maybe this topic had been already discussed..but i don't know where!
so..
i was wondering if the PAL version of the HVX would have the same features of the NTSC version..for example the chance to shoot 1080/25p, with variable frame rates such as 24p/25p/30p/60p...
i know for sure that it will shoot 720/25p but anyone knows more about it?
thanks.

The 50i version of the HVX will shoot 1080/50i and 1080/25p. It will also do 720/25p and 720/50p plus certain variable frame rates from 4? to 50. At least.

Can't the PAL version shoot both 25p and 24p? I think i heard that somewhere...

No, but the JVC HD100 Pal model will, perhaps that's what you heard.

I don't believe that's accurate. The European version does 1080/25p and 1080/50i. The US version does 1080/24p, 1080/30p, and 1080/60i. Similar to how the DVX works.

Frankly, I was myself surprised having read the above link....because enabling both 24P and 25P ...while quite desirable...apparently does not fit with the scheme of the HVX, as I have understood so far....But that is what some links claim!!!!...In fact there are some others giving similar information.

so once again...the best approach seems to be WAIT AND SEE...

Aejaz that retailer is clearly wrong. It lists the Pal version as shooting 720p at 60/30/24 fps, and also lists standard definition at 480 rather than 576. Just a sloppy listing. A lot of these online sellers are dodgy or lazy with their product details. Another online shop I frequently visit is taking orders for the HVX, and lists DVCPRO tapes with the camera rather than mini DV.

To date Panasonic has given no indication that the 50i/Pal version will record 24p - probably not that useful in Pal countries anyway - and has clearly stated it will shoot 25p.

I guessed that the PAL version would only be able to do 25p to tape but 24p to P2. But is 24p possible to P2, unlike DV-PAL on the DVX? Is there such a thing as 24p DVCPRO-HD PAL? I thought that PAL and NTSC are really the same, but just different frame rates in DVCPRO-HD. So I thought that the HVX would be able to do 24p to P2.

It's difficult to get hard info on the differences, but in DVCPRO 50i and 60i models are DIFFERENT.

For example, the 50i (PAL) model records only 16minutes of 720p onto a 8gig p2 card, whereas you'll get 20 minutes on the 60i (NTSC) model. Also, whereas the 60i model lays down 1080p to tape with 1280 horizontals lines of resolution, the 50i model is reputed to do 1440 (as I say, it's hard to find difinitive info on this, but the FCP4 manual states it and Jan all but confirmed it on DVXuser).

The European version might do 24p in 720, but it almost certainly won't do 24p in 1080. DVCPRO-HD 1080 is an interlaced 50i or 60i codec, it doesn't have provision for variable frame rates. 720p does. So they could easily put 720/24p on the European version (I don't know if they will, but they could). And they can put 1080/25p on the European version. But I don't think they will but 24p on it, as it can't be recorded within a 50i data stream.

... You are right, that is how it works.

Jan all but confirmed it on DVXuser
Remember tho, Jan also said she couldn't see any difference between them.

mmmh...doubts

mmmh...doubts

the HVX PAL will able to do 1080/25p?!? so except for the pulldown we'll have a cinealta in our hands...i'm asking if you are so sure about this info.
thanks

I am 100% sure about that, yes. The HVX100 European version will do 1080/25p and 1080/50i. There is no pulldown in the 25p footage.

Whether you can call a $5995 camera a "CineAlta" is of course a big stretch -- the CineAlta costs over $100,000 just for the body alone! But the HVX will become, yes, only the second camcorder that records 1080/25p.

(you could call it the "MiniAlta", I don't think anyone would mind that...)

(but that sells short its 720p capabilities, including variable frame rates. That's why I call it the "VariAlta").

ok

ok

Thanks Barry...
I agree with you. So let's start some kind of topic to find the cheaper PAL seller for the HVX!!
