HVX 200 - does it hold up?

hvx cameras are solid as brick s##!ters. and my p2 cards are nearing 2 years old with ZERO issues.

My HVX200 is years old now as well. Same for the P2 cards and the field drive. The Pelican case that holds all this stuff is also as old as the equipment in it, which is not to be understated.....

The HVX200/A is a ruggedly built camera, not sure about the cat thing above, but in general I have seen video of a free fall down the side of a cliff and when it hit the bottom it continued to record. Rock Climber dropped it. Couldn't use the video for all the explitives on the audio track but it did fall about 35 feet with a couple of bounces. This would not be a warranty repair if something had broken though. ;-)

The Cards are rated for 100,000 re-records, 30,000 insertions. In general they last a long time.

Best,

Jan

The only issue I've ever heard of is repairs needed on the headphone jack from lots of use. this can be solved with a L 1/8 adapter....other then that, as it's been said, she's built like a Brick SH@# House. I bought mine used, have rented it out many times, and it's going strong.

It's a good investment if you're renting alot, plus you can rent it when you're not using it.

Can't say enough about my HVX200. Built like a rock and never served up so much as a single dropped frame or bad clip.

But since I got the HPX170, you'll find my HVX for sale in the marketplace. I actually would keep it, but I travel with my camera all the time, and need to save every ounce I can.

We had ours fall off a 6' tripod on solid steel. Thank goodness it kept working since the client paid thousands of dollars to rent all the competitors forklifts and sissorlifts for this shoot.
Took a licking and kept on ticking. Of course we had to repair a couple small parts, but not for months till things slowed down.
