HVR-Z1U Data rate.(maybe the wrong way to word it)

(I'm not sure if this would be considered "data rate" but...)

We are in a situation where we are going to have to purchase a system to digitally archive all the footage that has been shot/will be shot on our HVR-Z1U camera 300+ hours so far). I need to know how much space of say 1 minute of footage would take up on a drive so then I can better figure out how much space we need to buy.

Any help is greatly...greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1080i HDV has 4.5 times as much pixel info, yes. But it crams it all into the same data rate. HDV uses MPEG-2 compression, which gains efficiency over large groups of pictures. DV uses DV compression, which is frame-based (more like MJPG). There are tradeoffs to both systems. DV will never suffer from motion artifacts or variable-resolution or motion-induced macroblocking like HDV does. HDV, on the other hand, fits four and a half times as many pixels into the same data rate.
