This is the heart of true, creative, devilishly entertaining independent film. This is the sort of thing that's within the grasp of "no budget" indie filmmakers.

Part Charlie Chaplin, part Wes Anderson, part Scott Pilgrim, it shows what you can do with a brilliantly tight script (it was FIXED IN PRE), fantastically executed.

The key is creativity and making your tiny budget work. Content is king.

It's insane. Watch it.

Just watched it this afternoon. This was a really fun ride!

David, I think your listed influences/analogies are good, but I believe left out is a very strong WB/Loony Tunes flavor (granted, that takes a bit of its influence from Chaplin, Vaudeville, etc.).

And there are so many little easter eggs in there with pop culture references and more.

The sound is also extremely effective, taking its production influence from the silent film era, but using ADR and post sound design to paint a vibrant picture with minimalistic dialog.

Yeah, it’s definitely not going to be for everyone, but no movie is. Our city’s big film festival just kicked off last night, and I was chatting with the Creative Director and mentioned this film, asking if he’d seen it. He laughed because they’d seriously considered screening it during last year’s festival, but decided to go with “Kick Me” instead (a delightfully bizarre, absurd, unhinged film that’s worth a watch). He loved the film, but also observed that it’s the kind of film that seems like it would play better with an audience, as opposed to watching at home.

I loved it, watching by myself, but I imagine the experience would have been even better with a group of people.

Yeah, it's highly stylized, so that style isn't going to appeal to everyone. Glad you can appreciate it without it being in your personal taste.

(And plus, to be fair, it does take a little while to figure out what exactly's going on.)
