humidity kills DVX.

One question,

I am going to shoot in summer my first feature on dvx.
In NYC.
Does DVX works ok in the humidity, I dont mean swimming in the ocean, just everyday humidity outdoors.

Let me know if there is anything I should consider while shooting in summer.

Thanks a lot,

Voytek

Re: humidity kills DVX.

There's an article - I wish I could find it - where a videographer - a documentary filmmaker - took his DVX to Iraq and was marveling over how even in 125 degree weather, it performed like normal. Now I will admit, that Iraqi weather is a bit more dry than North American summer weather, but I would venture a bet that it will work fine.

I live in Florida and I have wondered the same. It gets all sorts of humid down here. We should discuss this again when temperatures go up to 98 degrees with a saturated dew point!

Good luck!

normal humidity (i.e not swimming with it) shouldn't be a problem.. hey, this camera was built to work on earth, outside... i can't believe that the humidity in NYC will do any harm.

Re: humidity kills DVX.

Well, I had my DVX100 with me in Thailand in November last year during Monsoon season. I had it in a nice, cold, airconditioned hotel room every day and took it out into the humidity everyday (w/o plastic bag for warming up).

On one day, I even took it on a dive trip (onto the boat that is...) during heavy rain, in the middle of the Andaman Sea. Of course, the camera gave me a humidity warning for 2 hours since it was still cold from the hotel aircon but then it worked fine - and still does...

I have since been in the Philippines, again w/o problems. Only thing is since this camera is so well built with a metal body, it will adapt to temperature quickly and cause condensation...

put the camera in the shade while not in use, watch out for sand, verrrry nassssty, protect it like your wife,

ok maybe not that much ;D

Re: humidity kills DVX.

I shot a documentary in South Beach Miami last year. Went to a concert and 3 nightclubs and with all the humidity and heat the camera worked. The next day after leaving the hotel room, it started to rain. I took cover in a restaurant only to notice the humidity light flashing and no image. I read the manual and waited the required 2 hours and the camera started to work again. I am guessing that the transition from the airconditioning of the hotel to the hot streets of Miami plus the humidity activated the humidity/condensation light. Two hours is a long time to wait and could have missed a lot. Thankfully it was downtime for me.

I routinely keep my camers is big zip lock bags and try to let them acclimate to the ambient temps before use when possible. There has been the suggestion to buy a hair dryer, remove the heating element and use it in an emergecy to 'quick dry' the insides. I'd be warry of dust, but maybe it could be filtered. I hear nylon from stockings/pantyhose does a fair job to filter dust from getting inside computers, so this might work.

Hey, I sound like Martha Stewart allova sudden.

FWIW,
