Humidity Codes HDR FX1

Has anyone else had their camera throw the code for humidity? My studio is air conditioned and dry but last night the camera would not play back a tape for capture? I can’t recall the code but when I checked the manual it came up as a moisture/ humidity code. I was prompted to re insert the cassette but each time I did the same thing happened. Any ideas?

FX-1 Humidity

Hi,

I was viewing an instructional piece (2 DVD set) on the FX-1 produced by Elite Video, in which they mention the problem you experienced.

They simply suggested opening the tape transport compartment and allow the unit to sit for 1-2 hours, and then the condition should dissipate.

Good Luck,

Your studio is air conditioned & dry, but did you just come in from a hot muggy outside - or worse, go the other way? Dew can be a stinker to clear once it's formed since water wants to absorb a lot of energy before going from liquid back to a gas. Taking a nice cool camera out into a hot muggy day is a guarantee of moisture - just look at the sides of your drink glass.

The insides of the camera are pretty packed - read very little airflow. Opening the tape door and judicious application of a hair dryer ON LOW from a distance - feel against your hand - keep temp below 120f - can help. Let cool to room temp before inserting tape . . .

Good luck!

They're ok but not great. I watched the video once and never again. It's a good tool to get up to speed on the camera but there were critical areas that they just glossed over. They never explained what the different picture controls do, only make the adjustments; that whole section was like 5 minutes when it should have been at least 10. Not to mention they promised free email support but never replied to my question.

I tend to agree that the guys on Elite Video could have provided more logic as to why they selected certain parameters, i.e., on picture profiles, etc....

But they do go a bit further into it in a section, I think it's titled, "HD School" or "HD University" where they have talent standing outside on an overcast day and, in an attempt to show what the FX-1 can do (or its big brother, for that matter), they do a pretty decent job of walking you through the steps they take to achieve the "Film Look" via Cineframe 24 feature.

What I mean to say is that they go down the Picture Profile options list and execute each item to show its bearing on the look achieved on the talent, and reduction in DOF, the effect ND Filters has, what time of day is best, her distance from camera, skin tone, Cine Gama, etc...

At the end of this segment, they show you what you can achieve, with the freckle-faced girl standing there with the "film look" VS. what the typical amateur (like me) would have gotten had they not been enlightened by the Elite Video Crew, which is the flat, long DOF "video look" any handycam yields.

Yeah, some say their style is a bit cheesie, or whatever, but this demonstration really gave me, a novice, some valuable insight as to what the camera is capable of, in such a way the manual, or the other video, "Hands-On Training" could not.

See Ya!
