Huge price differences on HMC150?

I'm not in the US so I don't know the supplier, but it smells a bit fishy to me, I would use B&H or one of the sponsors off this site if I were you.

The site also mentions a 1 year warranty. If you purchase an HMC150 and register it through Panasonics website, you receive a 3 year warranty.

Wonder if this is a used camera

Seriously - You will get a call later on telling you your $2000 doesn't come with the lens (its friggin fixed) or battery ending up costing you $3500 in the end. If you don't want the extras you will get an email later telling you its out of stock. Been there done that... then purchased from B&H. 3yr warranty.

Oh yeah - always type 'business_name scam' or 'business_name reviews' in google - then you will find out whats up...

B&H is a good, safe way to go. They may not always have the absolute lowest price, although they usually do, plus if there should ever be a problem, their customer service is very, very good.

Just out of curiosity, why is Amazon rarely mentioned as a place to buy audio/video gear?

I purchased my HMC150 from Amazon earlier this year and got it for $200 less than B&H.

I really like Amazon, but... If you check their return policy you may be subject to a restocking fee or not being able to return an item if you open the package. B&H return policy more or less says "We want to make you happy"

So I am careful what I order from Amazon. OTH if you have not opened the package the Amazon return system is really good.

Perhaps I'm the exception, which is why I ask the question, but I've had nothing but great experiences with Amazon.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I purchased an HMC 150 from Amazon earlier this year. What I didn't mention is that I purchased an HVX200A from Amazon before I purchased my HMC150. I purchased the 200A, received it, opened it and used it for 2 days (really about 2 hours, 1 hr each day) before realizing that I really needed a tripod but couldn't get one since I spent all my money on a camera. (I know....I shoulda thought about that before dropping $5k but I finally got agreement from my wife so I wanted to act fast before she changed her mind!)

I requested an RMA # from Amazon, honestly indicating that nothing was wrong with the camera but that I simply wanted a different camera. My request was approved. I packed up my open camera and shipped it back to Amazon. Within 3 days, I received confirmation that the camera had been received and my account had been credited even though I accidentally forgot to include the user manual in the return box.

Anyone else try to return items to Amazon? Any issues?

I was not trying to imply that I actually had a bad experience with Amazon - in fact they have all been good ones . I am just cautious and Amazon's written return policy is pretty clear. But it's good to know that they are actually more lenient.

B&H lists a couple of cameras as "used" even though they are brand new in-the-box cameras. What I believe happens is that they buy from a distributor in Japan (not an official Panasonic supplier) and then back the camera with an in-house one year warranty.

I bought my HMC 150 from a local distributor. I keep the money local AND I'm assured good technical assistance. I can call or walk in the door any time to get help- that's pretty valuable to me as a newbie.

I do too agree about buying local, but the stores that i usually buy gear from either 1 don't carry it or 2 i have to pre-order and wait forever... i bought previous cameras locally and do agree is important to help your local shops, they're always there whenever you may need an item in a rush!.

I just ordered one from broadwayphoto.com for 2699. I am extremely pleased with my purchase. Sure its grey market but who cares. I have owned 3 DVX100's for years and never had a problem. These cameras dont use tape. I dont know about you guys but I would rather take the extra money for something other than nothing.
