HS400a and HPX300 tested in my church

Just purchase the HS-400. Excellent piece of mixer hardware, using it for music festivals, sporting events and corporate events.

However, you need to stay native HDSDi if you don't want to add any more frame delay. As soon as you add a DVi input or any other input (other than sdi) it adds a 2 frame delay. If you have the frame store on , it adds a 2 frame delay and if you add 3D effects that adds another 2 frame delay. In theory you could have up to a 6 frame delay which is unacceptable in most live event situations.

We've managed to work around this by purchasing a Barco Folsom Image80-HD Switcher for any computer inputs we need to show or indeed any other devices, like a blue ray DVD, that doesn't have HDSDi out.

We've added the Focus Enhancement converter box's (changes analogue HD to HD SDi) to our HVX-200 Camcorders and have placed an order for 4 HPX-301's. As soon as they arrive the HVX-200's will be made redundant.

Overall we're very happy with our HD Portable Studio. I still can't believe that we've managed to put together a Full HD Mobile Studio with 4 Camera Channels with Fibre Links for less than £100,000 (GBP).

Panasonic, you listen and then you deliver. Well done.

and I believe Panasonic are bringing out a Camera Control System for the HPX-301 later this year. It may be a bit late for us but never say never about updating/upgrading a great system to greater system.

Thanks Rich, that's good to know. I am hoping to avoid dvi in and instead setup a computer with a Xena LHi as a down stream keyer. I also plan on evaluating the new Datavideo SE-2000 coming out in June.
For software, I've downloaded and played around with Power CG Live HD from Cayman Graphics.

I thought that the HPX300 could also playback clips with different formats immediately without having to switch first to the format it is recorded in (like you have to do with the HVX200).
No, it's more like the HVX200 in that respect. In some ways it's better than the HVX, in some ways it's worse; you don't have a separate playback mode to swap into for playback so that's better, but changing modes between 1080 and 720 means you have to cycle the power off, so that's worse.

It's a different kind of camera, and it works the way the bigger broadcast cameras do, like the HPX2000 and above. So, again, it's not the same -- some ways better, some ways worse, the net effect being that it's easier to do the job on the 170.
