HPX900 question regarding 24p

No better place to ask so maybe one f you will have an answer. I noticed that in 720p it records 24p with standard pulldown... ONly if i shoot 1080i can i get the 24pA... Anyone knows the resaon why? I thought 720p is the Panasonic's preffered "szie" so why not give me the oprtunity to shoot the 24pA in that format?

Are you sure it's a pulldown at all? The difference is the 720P (progressive) format doesn't write any interlacing at all. It's based on the 720 60P format where 60 progressive frames are written per second to tape. Since this camera is tapeless, it only writes the 24 progressive frames to card. Hence why there doesn't need to be an Advanced pulldown.

There should be two ways to write the 720 24p video. One way would write the 24 frames over 60P, basically wasting redundant frames that will be ignored later by your edit software (like the varicam does). The other, I think called "24PN" for Native, where it only writes the 24 frames that are captured creating 23.976 fps files. (I recommend shooting the latter)

However, DVCPROHD's 1080 format is written to tape/card interlaced at 1080 60i. But since the images are acquired progressively and written with an advanced pulldown, you can retrieve the progressive files for post. Does this help?
