HPX500 questions

Hey guys,

Just a few questions regarding the HPX500...it's really intriguing because of the new $2k rebate.

Now, I got a quote for $9,984 for the EFP package (Tripod plate & case) with the viewfinder...and no p2 cards, no lens (will think of that later on)... is this a good price prior to the rebate? Will Panasonic just drop the price at 8k without a rebate after the June 31 rebate expires? A new cam will come out in the same price range beating the HPX500??

As far as the quality, I expect that it is just a tad bit better than the HVX200 because of the same imagers but 2/3" CCD's....correct me if I'm wrong.

I am guessing that Panasonic dropped the price due to the EX1, but that cam uses CMOS 1/2" chips at native 1080p....not counting the 4:2:0 color space, did anybody do a comparison between these 2 cameras to see which one has better quality? (possibly the sharpness is better on the EX1 due to it's higher res chips).

Awaiting for a reply.

Thank you!

I'm curious where you got the quote from? I too am looking at this closely with the new rebate.

The lowest I've seen is B&H with the body and viewfinder only for that much. The plate and case were another $1000 or so.

Jan,
yes I always get cameras from Authorized dealers and this camera is no exception and I'm from the U.S. One question to you, if I get 2, will I be eligible for 2 rebates?

Also, any reasons why Panasonic is giving the rebate? Or is it a secret?....will the HPX500 or 2000 drop in price any time soon without a rebate needed?

Thank you

Hi,

The reason for the rebate is that we wanted customers to take notice of this camera and felt that $2000 would do that. The promotion only lasts tile the end of June and then the price goes back to where it was. And yes, if you buy 2, you qualify for 2 rebates.

Best,

Jan
