HPX500 footage for broadcast

Shooting with the HPX500 (1080i I guess) for a cable commercial. Needs to be 4:3 (interlaced) on Betacam. Does anyone have suggestions for best way to handle this? Bring it into an Apple Pro Res 4:3 NTSC Sequence and just frame it in the field 4:3 and ignore the outside?

Thanks!

True. But I'd rather start as high quality as I can. Especially of down the road they want an HD ad...thanks barry. Do you have any other thoughts assuming it has I be shot hd

I shoot HD and output to SD all the time. I record in either 1080i or 720p, download to FCP 5.1, import the video into the project in P2, then set the timeline's settings to SD. The video, in the timeline, is now SD, but at 16x9, so there's the black bars above and below. I like that look, and so far no client has complained. Plus, you can squeeze graphics into the black bars.
Since everything we air is in SD, I wouldn't mind shooting in DVCPRO 50, but FCP 5.1 doesn't seem to accept that format.

We shoot a bunch of these, usually 720p. Mostly we edit in HD and dump letterbox to Betacam via output of the Aja ioHD. Most clients like this look and it's nice editing in HD. Occasionally someone wants a full 4x3 frame. For them we shoot HD and edit in a 4x3 timeline. We clip the sides of the video and make the video full frame for them. The exception is when we want the video letterbox but also use the top and bottom for GFX. For that, we start with a SD 4x3 timeline and leave video in letterbox.

Some broadcasters now take a file upload. This looks really good on the air when available.
