What is the difference or differences between the DSP on the 500 and the one on the original 200? Does the 500 capture an even higher bit depth to later reduce to 8 bit or are they the same?

And also, although the Varicam records in DVCPRO HD 8 bit, does it's DSP work with higher bit depths than the 500?

I mean, of course the highlights and tonal range is miles better on the varicam than it is on the HVX/HPX/200a...yet they all end in 8 bit..

HPX500 features a high-performance digital signal processor (DSP) with 14-bit A/D conversion and 19-bit processing that handles HD/SD format conversion simultaneously

hmm. The HPX probably samples the lumanance/color at a higher starting bit rate then, then downconverts it to 8-bit.
