HPX500 and Nikon Lenses?

Is there any mechanical adapter (glassless) out there to mount Nikon lenses to the HPX500? Interested in wildlife and could use the crop/field-of-view magnification ratio of using a 35mm lens on a 2/3" sensor. I current am spoiled by a 7.2x mag ratio with a 1/3" camera and my Nikkors.

But aren't those glass adapters? They won't give me the additional mag.ratio/fov/crop factor of 2.5x I need for wildlife. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

That's correct, they won't give you the magnification/narrower FOV. They are designed to give you Academy(Letus) or Academy and 35mm SLR(Cinevate) FOV and DOF.

Nikon used to make a non-optical relay that gave the magnification you are seeking, it was a long tube, I believe. Not sure how easy it would be to find.

I assume a 2X extender isn't adequate?

This is what I've done. I had an old Pentax 300mm screw mount lens. Very sharp lens for my old Pentax Spotmatic. I had a damaged B4 mount lens, so I took off the B4 mount and made my own adapter. It was pretty easy because the Pentax lens had a barrel that slid longer or shorter. This made it easy to do a rough focus. So, no glass and great reach

Now, you can only do this for telephoto lenses. Wide angle won't work because in wide lenses, you need to get the rear element very close to the CCD, CMOS, etc. and that is where you need glass.

Next week I'll show pics of my setup, as I haven't tried the setup on my 500, only on a Sony broadcast camera.

What effect doe the opitec have on DOF? Since the image is still being read on a 2/3 chip then the DOF characteristics are 2/3rd? What is the magnification factor, is it 2.5 as Harry says?
