Hpx371

Picked up a 371 today to have a play with. It's nice because the transition from it to the Varicam for paid work is so easy - similar layout and operation, plus P2 and AVC Intra on both. Going from something like an EX is a real change.
Trying out some Nikons via Mike Tapa adapter.
Few annoying things straight away - pre record does not work on most settings - variable frame rates (as with Varicam), but also any of the 1080 PAL settings!
Can't assign VFR to one of the User buttons. Doesn't seem to be a Half mode for the shutter speed.
I'll post more observations as I make them!

I find the viewfinder to be really very good, not far off the Varicam really, a pleasant surprise.
The stock lens handles beautifully, as good as any I've used. Optically it seems nice too, but not really tried it properly.
Still evaluating the stills lenses but it's immediately obvious that anything you put on it needs to absolutely top drawer. Tried a Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and it was so so. The Nikon 200mm f2 is excellent though.
More to come...

Oh my thats big, you do of course realise Steve that if you ever actually use that rig in the field you will probably find yourself surrounded by the anti-terrorist branch :P

Looks like a damn bazooka :) but a great rig for wildlife shooting tho.
