45 or 90 degrees will give you the "Gladiator"/"Saving Private Ryan" type look. Crisp images but you need more light. higher than 180 will bring more light in but there will be more blur in the image on movements/ect.
Thanks for the reply. I should have re-phased my question. Beyond the effects stand point has anyone noticed any advantages of using shutter angles other than 180deg? Positive effect on skew, rolling shutter?
Having too short of a shutter angle can cause a rolling shutter artifact when shooting under magnetic-ballast fluorescent or HMI lighting. In cases like that, ditch the angle entirely and set the shutter speed to a fixed 1/60 (NTSC) or 1/50 (PAL).
