HPX300 Low Battery Warning/Shutdown with a FULLY CHARGED BATTERY!

Anyone have their HPX300 goes into "Low Battery" warning mode and then shut down with a fully charged or nearly fully charged Hytron 50 battery, just off the charger and showing full or nearly full on the battery LCD? This is happening with two different nearly new AB batteries, camera menu set correctly for Hytron 50. I AM running a Marshall V-LCD70XP-3GSDI off the AB battery plate tap but it draws no more than 1 amp max. It was working fine for a couple of weeks and last night on a shoot this problem started up and wouldn't stop.

Does it do the same thing with the Marshall not hooked up?

In my experience, I've found the AB LCD displays not entirely accurate.

It has not happened to me. As a matter of fact I find that my camera uses a pretty low amount of power. I have shot many times 2 or 3 32gb cards and used just one battery.

I've had problems with the Hytron 50s as well. I don't like them. I changed to trimpacs and Dionics. No more problems

I have your answer because I had the same problem and called AB. I have 2 new Dionics and 2 new Hytron 50s.

It is not enough to set the menu for Dionic 50 or Hytron 50, although that is necessary. You MUST set the Full at 14.4V, Near at 12.7V, End at 11.5V.

My understanding is that this tells the camera when to warn you that the battery level is getting low and when to shut down the camera. Hope that helps. If not call Anton Bauer.

Hi nedcam,

The battery thing happened to me again today. I have 2 Dionics 90 and the dual 2722 charger. Both batteries are fulliy charged and as good as new.
When I look in the battery menu of my HPX it has the folluwing settings :

battery select : dionic 90
battery mode : auto
dionic 90 near : 13.7 V
end : 13.1 V
type A and type B settings : don't know what this means (it is also not clear from the HPX manual)
near and cancel : on

so what to do ? I don't want to blow up internal HPX circuits by changing battery settings. Any idea's ??

Ned is correct. I had to manually set the battery info. I run V-mount batteries, so I contacted the manufacturer to get the Full/Half/End voltages. Easy to do in the menu. You won't damage anything in the camera by doing this - the camera will just give you false readings and/or shut down if not set correctly.

I have the dual 2722 charger and it seems that this charger type is known for its issues (one of the 2 loading position seems often to fail). Even when the display show that the battery is full it is probably not completely full. I got a brand new charger from AB (good serivice) and it after charging the batteries all was ok again. Hope this charger will not get the same issue after a while.
