hpx300 compared to hvx

Ok this may be a dumb question but I've considered getting a HVX for a while now and finally got some projects to warrant a purchase. I've been looking at the HPX and I gotta say, I'm impressed with the footage I've seen.

I've never shot in HD before so it's a little daunting. I'd like to get some feedback if this is even in the same boat as the HVX. I shoot mainly music videos and documentaries.

Any help would be mucho appreciated!

The HPX300 has pretty similar menu controls and workflow to the HVX200. It's about as sensitive. It has a smoother, sharper picture than the HVX. If you want a shoulder-mount camera there's nothing that comes within a hundred miles of it at anywhere near its price tag.

I have to agree.

We put up a friends 300 against our HPX-500 and I thought that it rendered fine detail a bit sharper.

A real eye opener.

I am curious, if anyone has used the HPX for downsampled recording, how did it work out? If you wanted to cut HPX footage with HVX footage for example, would it be better to record to Pro-HD instead of intra?

Thanks in advance
Grant

If you're trying to make them match in the recorded footage, then yes, shooting DVCPRO-HD would give you a starting point that's closer to HVX200 footage.
