HPX250: HPX250 footage lost on P2 card

I've been using my HPX250 for 7 months now without any problems and then suddenly after a morning shoot today at two separate locations I return home just now to find both shoots not recorded on the P2 cards. To confound matters, a later afternoon shoot using same camera and cards is recorded without problems as usual. WTF? Any ideas? I didn't do anything different from what I normally do but there is no mention of any activity on either cards from this morning. Only the afternoon shoot which is fine. I'm completely baffled how/why this happened and so therefore how to prevent a reoccurance. I thought these hideously overpriced P2 cards didn't pull this kind of s*%t. Any input would be much appreciated.

how was the temperature when you shoot on the morning ? I'had got same issues with my DVX operating near 0°C but it's magnetic tape, i would be surprised if it do the same issues with P2 Card.

how old was the P2 card ?

Are you the only man to operate the cam ? ( i don't remember if there is a special function to erase the last shot )

last but not least, did you push the rec button ( i know i can do that if i got no caffeine ! )

I think we all have pulled the "Oops, forgot to hit the REC button" if you've worked in the industry long enough. That's why you check your shots before you leave. If it is the P2 card, you should be able to reproduce the problem.

It's very difficult to corrupt a clip on P2. Even if you pulled the card during record or shut the camera off, the most you would loose is the last 2 seconds.

I agree with the above. The record button was not pressed.

I've had a few occasions when I thought I had pressed REC to stop a recording, and didn't. So the camera kept rolling and recorded garbage, and when I intended to resume recording, I actually stopped the camera and missed what I intended to record.

Even with the recording status being prominently displayed in the viewfinder and LCD, if you are too focused on framing the shot, focusing the camea etc., it is entirely possible to miss it.

I forced myself into the habit of composing my shot then looking to see STBY change to REC and to see rolling timecode before I count it as recording. I have missed a few shots in my day because I was concentrating on the subject matter and thinking I was pressing the red button only to find later I didn't.

I never lost anything which was recorded on my P2 cards. Corrupt data ( usually EOF not written ) can be repaired with various apps. I do know the "rec button was not pushed" syndrome though ;-)
