HPX250: HPX250 focusing issue??

Dino, you are talking about zooming all the way in to the ground glass? I normally try to avoid that as to not see the GG. Do you notice any speed difference from the 170 as to f-stop?
Thanks

Yes, can't zoom all the way into GG. 250 is faster than 170, especially in PAP 1.

Can anybody clarify something for me. Originally their was a choice of a focus bar, expanded focus, and peaking. The peaking was in white. Has the red focus taken the place of peaking in white? I do not see peaking in white at all and was just wondering. Thanks,

Sincerely,
Bill

I think you can still select peaking in the menu but in practice you do not need both as it makes the Red less effective.

Old thread, but what ever happened to the auto focus testing? Were the results posted anywhere? Good, bad, ugly? Trying to decide between keeping my HMC-150 vs 160/250.

Thanks for your help.

I am wondering: 160 users who made the payable update report that AF has improved drastically! Would Panasonic please explain why this AF solution is not available as a FW update for 250 users? I still can NOT use AF on my 250, it hunts focus and takes too much time.

Tim, if you are talking about the turbo focus, that was a firmware update for the HPX250 in the US. I updated my camera and it works fine.

Sincerely,
Bill

Hi Tim

I was not aware that the HPX had the same AF issues. I bought two AC-130's and ditched them after 3 months as the AF hunted madly even with fixed objects. It seems that the focus system changed after the HMC150's as they work fine as well as the AF on the 40 and 80 series too. Before you get too excited, the update for the 130/160 simply added focus assist and turbo focus which is a manual focus .."push to focus" button ...AFAIK the updates have done nothing to solve the autofocus issues and the they were seemingly made available to try and steer users away from having to use AF as the assist and turbo are pretty good.
