HPX171E Focus graph and other things

Hi

Just took delivery of PAL HPX171E and promptly purchased Barry's HVX HPX Book - just as well the manual that came with the UK camera is a bit sparse.

So apologies in advance if I drive you mad with questions for a while.

Anyway - working through the book playing with the camera - Book refers to Focus Graph but I can't find any reference in either manual about how to turn that on.

Second - I've turned on the distance meter so it's showing distance to object in feet. But when I point it at something 6 foot away it's saying 60ft or 80ft. Is that meant to be read as 6.0 and 8.0 or is it just wrong?

Thanks

OK - I sorted the graph. It is an option under menu "SW MODE" / "FOCUS ASSIST".

Just leaves the query about the distance meter if anyone knows.

The "feet" readout isn't telling you the distance to an object, it's telling you the focus position of the lens. So when that says "60ft", it means you've set the focus ring so that it's focused for an object 60 feet away. If the object you're pointing at is actually six feet away, then you'd want to turn the focus ring until the readout says "6 feet", and then you'd know it was properly focused.

Thanks - I should have said that readout was created by autofocus.

So does that mean autofocus isn't working correctly?

Well, more likely it means that it's not focusing on what you thought it should be focusing on. Try shooting something flat (like a book cover or a photograph) at a set distance and see if the numbers don't match up more like you'd expect.
