HPX171e ...24pn?

Hi

It's late, I'm tired, the shoot is in 5 hours and I think I'm going mad!

But I seem to have lost 24pn from my rec format options. Am I just imagining it was there? I thought the hpx171 could do this? have I done something to lose it? Please help!!!

Hi.
If it is the hpx171 and not the 170 then your options are 25p or 25pn etc. but no 24p or 24pn.

I personally own a AG-HPX 171E, the european nMe of the HPX 170. I can assure you that there is a 24pn mode. To access it you neex to change the power frequency of the camera to 60hz while it is set to 50hz by default to match the european power frequency. The power freq mode is in the last menu tab. MP me for morr info on the 171E ;)
good luck with your shooting.

Thanks so much man, I literally read your comment as I was going out of the door, you saved my ass big time!!! May sound a silly question, but I'm not going to affect/damage my camera by using it at that frequency and charging it in a european socket?

Thanks again!

Your camera is using a power converter anyway, and if you read the litte tag in the botom, you will realize that your camera can hold both frequencies.

The only difference will be (as on any 35 mm cameras) a flicker issue with the HMIs and other electric arcs, bit you know this already as it is more due to the frequency than to the camera itself.

a good thread would be to list all the differences between the different versions of the HPX-170 / HPX-171E and the other alternatives (Japanese version ?)
Barry ? I'm willing to help you on this one as I own a AG-HPX-171E (european version)

As I understand it there are no differences other than model number. No different features other than the frame rates based on the territory.

So HPX170 and HPX175 = NTSC, 24pN/30pN/60p/60i
HPX172 and HPX173 and HPX174 = PAL, 25p/50p/50i
HPX171E = both NTSC and PAL, 24p/25p/30p/50p/50i/60p/60i

USA models of the HPX170 includes The HPX and HVX Book and a 16GB P2 card in the box.

All units carry a warranty within their own targeted market, so a USA camera will be warranted by the USA service offices, but a Japanese version won't. You'd have to send a Japanese HPX175 back to Japan if you wanted warranty service.

It seems that Panasonic is adopting Sony's suffixes, where "U" means 60Hz (or maybe just the North American market) and "E" means either 50Hz or specifically European market. In Panasonic's advertisement materials, whitepapers and docs you can see a mishmash of 150, 150U, 151, 151E, etc. Same with the HMC40.

Can we get the HPX171 in north america (Canada to be precise)? I sometimes shoot pal for some projects, and having the 171 instead of the 170 might be a better option for me.

I don't think so, but you can purchase a HPX170 and ask panasonic to unlock the dual frequency feature for us $500+tax+s/h

Tim,

The cost of 59.94/ 50Hz system frequency switchability function upgrade
for AGHPX170P is $500.00 + tax + S/H (UPS 2nd day).
Please be advised above optional upgrade irreversibly alters standard
functionality of AGHPX170P camera.
Therefore, it is required the owner of the camera signs acknowledgement
form accepting conditions of the upgrade before upgrade is performed.
Please print attached form, sign and fax it back to 201-348-5200.
Upon receiving signed form we will schedule the upgrade of your
AG-HPX170P camera.

That sounds scarry! Will there be problems with the normal functionality of the camera? Or are they just saying that to cover their ass?

It will no longer be an HPX170P. It'll be an HPX171E. Therefore it'll be irreversibly altered. Doesn't mean anything bad will happen, just that it won't be an HPX170P anymore. I guess if somehow Panasonic USA got a firmware update for the 170p, you wouldn't be able to use it if you'd had your camera converted, but -- realistically, that's not gonna happen.
