HPX170 Zoom Ring Noise/Scatchy Movment

I have an HPX170p and noticed that when in manual zoom mode, the zoom ring makes a little bit of a scratchy noise when zooming in and out. Also, it doesn't seem to be as fluid when zooming in and out as my DVX100b. The DVX seems to be much much better at manual zoom. The only way to describe the HPX zoom is 'sandy' but no sand has been near this camera. Its not severe, just irritating, wondering if other people have experienced this issue or i just got a lemon.

Also, the focus ring seems to get a little stiff when the weather gets cold, is this common?

I can't speak to the scratching noises (mine does make a bit of a sound, but nothing distracting), but the stiff ring during cold temperatures is a known issue that all HPX's that I've seen have exhibited.

I also have a 'sandy' feeling when manual zooming with my HPX. I've bought my camera used as a panasonic demo.

I'm not getting a scratchy sound, just a sandy feeling when zooming. Any one else?

The focus ring does get stiff when it gets cold, its a known issue. As I understand it panasonic changed the fluid from the DVX + HVX as per customer suggestion. The trade-off was a fluid that gets stiff at 40 below.

what was the issue with the fluid in the dvx/hvx? I've had both (still have HVX 200A) and am unaware of anything. Just curious!

i'm not sure what the issue was, panasonic just said it was user request to have a fluid that is a little smoother.

I can't remember what thread it was, something about the HPX-170 in cold weather. its somewhere in that thread.
