HPX170 Variations

Hey I had a quick question for everyone!

What does it mean when I see "HPX174" or "HPX171"

What does the variation of the number mean? What types of variables are there?

AFAIK, the 171, 174 etc is just to designate manufacture for different countries.

not sure if maybe one of them might be NTSC/PAL switchable perhaps?

The 171 is pal/NTSC switchable. None of the other ones are, they're one territory or the other. A 170 can be upgraded to be switchable, by sending it in to the Panasonic USA service department.

I own an HPX170, is there any upgrades available that I should look into getting?

Well, there are no upgrades, per se... but you should obviously go on the Panasonic PASS website and check that your firmware is up to date. I think the firmware has been updated for compatibility with the "E" series P2 cards.
