HPX170 Stuck in HVXPRO50! Please Help!

I recently let my friend barrow my HPX170, I went to shoot with it the other day and noticed it wasn't as crispy as it normally is. I checked everything and its stuck in DVCPRO50 while in 720/60. I tried putting it to 1080i/60i nothing changed. I go under recording setup and it says 480i rec mode DVCPRO50 in blue and can't change it. Ive tried everything and don't know what do to. The weird thing is when i go to the playback on the camera in bottom left corner it says DVCPROHD, but not in the menu.. can someone please help, I need to figure this out in the next 2 days I have a shoot!

480i Rec Mode is only selectable if your Recording Mode is 480i -- so if it's blue, you are definitely NOT shooting in DVCPRO 50. You are shooting DVCPRO HD. You can confirm this in your NLE.

480i Rec Mode does not affect anything but 480i shooting.

Recording Format- 720p/60p
Recording Function- DVCPRO50- in Blue. Shouldn't it automatically go to DVCPROHD? Ive never had this problem. And when i change format to 480 i, the recording function becomes un blue, but they're is no DVCPROHD, even when i put it to to 1080i/60i DVCPRO50 stays blue, along with One shot Time, and Interval time. I called Panasonic and they guy on the phone told me that DVCPROHD isn't a recording format? I'm loosing my mind over this!

DV, DVCPRO, and DVCPRO50 are only ever used for standard-def.

DVCPRO-HD is the only option possible for high-def.

So if you put the camera in 480i mode (standard def), then you will have the choice of DV, DVCPRO, or DVCPRO50. But you will NOT have the choice of DVCPRO-HD.

If you put the camera in 720p or 1080 (high def), then you won't get any choice at all, because it will always inherently necessarily be DVCPRO-HD.

If you set the REC FORMAT to 720p or 1080, it will be recording high-def in DVCPRO-HD, always, invariably, unquestionably. It doesn't matter what that line says in blue about DVCPRO50, because it's not active. That's only relevant when you switch to standard-def (by setting the REC FORMAT to 480i).

If the Panasonic rep told you that DVCPRO HD isn't a recording format, then he needs another job.

As Barry explains, when you shoot in 720 or 1080, 480i Rec Mode doesn't apply, at all, so it's blue. It has no effect whatsoever on 720 or 1080 recording. It has always been this way, so it's not something which recently started happening in your camera. There is no possible way to shoot 720 or 1080 in DVCPRO 50.

Like I said, you can confirm that what you shot is DVCPRO HD just by viewing the clip properties in your NLE. Not to mention that the frame height will be 720 or 1080.

The other things (One Shot, Interval, etc.) being blue doesn't have anything to do with the codec; it has to do with whether you're in FILM CAM or VIDEO CAM mode.
