HPX170 Setup

There is no need for an adapter. The 170 comes with a mic holder.
Your hot shoe be free. I bought this mic for my 170. Page 10 of the manual shows you the holder that came i the box.

Ah, I now see what the issue is. I bought this camera from someone else and they didn't give me the Mic Holder that typically comes with it. Wonder where I could purchase the stock Shotgun Microphone holder for the HPX170. Would I also need the Microphone holder adapter? I just want to be able to use the shotgun as well as a wireless at the same time.

Thanks for all the help fellas.

Found the stuff here:

But for 110 dollars combined that seems a little steep for two pieces of plastic. Has to be something more affordable then that?

Look in the previous posts. The stock mic holder is crap anyways, because it doesn't adequately isolate the mic from the camera body. The person that removed it before you practically did you a favor.

yup.

many mic accessories are specific to a certain or to a range of mics. consult a dealer or manufacturer for what works best for what.

I wouldn't be able to use the SIMA bracket because at times I would need to have the shotgun mic attached to my camera while it's on the tripod. So my question is, and pardon my embarrassing lack of knowledge on the subject, I am new to this all and can't seem to find information on this, where would I be able to attach say the Rode SM3 shock mount to my camera if the Sennheiser wireless receiver is attached to the hot-shoe mount? Could I move the sennheiser receiver to the screw-mount somehow and attach the sm3 to the hot-shoe mount? would make more sense that way so the shotgun mic would be out at the front of the camera. receiver can go anywhere really.

if anyone has any pictures that would be really helpful too. again, sorry for my lack of knowledge on the subject. thanks again.

The OEM mic mount is junk for good audio, and at that price expensive junk. Here are a couple of ideas for you. Use the shoe for the shotgun, and one of these brackets for the wireless receiver. If you are a little handy, the brkt 1 product could be built by hand bending some 1/8" aluminum sheet.

Now another better idea. If you use a Senn G2 receiver, they come with a little plastic mount for the receiver that was meant to go on the shoe. The receiver clips to it and it is full of mounting holes. This mount can be adapted to the hole pattern on the cam which was meant for the mic mount. Drill one hole, get two 4mm screws and you are finished.
