HPX170 owners--please check your camera for this-

hi all,

i don't mean to beat a dead horse--i've already posted several times about this, but still haven't really figured out problem. i need to figure out if this problem is with my camera in particular or all HPXs....i'm really hoping it's just mine so i can just exchange.

i just bought an hpx170 and noticed a intermittent mechanical 'groaning' noise. it's pretty quiet. but you can definitely hear it in a quiet room, esp. if you put your ear to lens hood....and if i attach sennheiser and record, it definitely picks it up...

if you're doing boom/lav sound, it's not going to be an issue. but i do a lot of solo shooting/sound. so being able to use the mounted senneheiser and getting decent sound is crucial.

i have camera on all manual (including zoom, focus, iris, etc.). ois is on, but i've tried switching it off too and still get the noise.

if you have the time, i'd really appreciate getting feedback on how many of you HPX guys have this issue with the camera.

thanks very much.

This is your third thread about this. haha

my hpx does not do this though.

If you can, post an audio clip of the sound you are hearing when you have a mic mounted on the camera. That way, it will be easier to pinpoint the problem.

Sometimes we have noticed in the past that the auto focus, OIS or one of the other elements in the lens system will cause the famous "groaning" noise. All cameras do this to some extent but I'm talking you have to press your ear up to the camera and wait a while and you will eventually hear it. If it's being picked up in the MIC though, I think it may need to be replaced.

my hpx does it... annoying sometimes. I just figured it was normal. it's the auto focus. silent when in manual focus.
