HPX170 Lens Hood keeps falling off

Any ideas on a way to secure that hood? I have used my new HPX170 for two days and the hood keeps falling off in my backpack and since the hood cap replaces the lens cap I am concerned about scratching my filter. I suppose I could go out and use a 72mm lens cap but I never needed to do this before and it's aggravating.

The old HVX200 did not have this problem, but this new hood design has no way to secure it on, it only takes a quarter twist to remove it and it that happens every time I use it. Not sure why Panasonic didn't stick with the old hood assembly, I can't imagine that little screw added any appreciable weight or assembly cost?

:(

you have to apply a little bit of force and it will LOCK into place. you will feel it lock in. dont be afraind to apply pressure needed to lock it, it kinda freaked me out at first too on my 150.

And you definitely NEED to lock it in place, because if you don't push it that last little extra bit to get it to lock, then it will be on slanted - and it might actually show up in your shot as a slight diagonal vignette in the image when shooting at full wide angle.

Make sure you LOCK that lens hood into place by snapping it firmly.

haha, had the same exact problem -- i guess i don't feel so alone anymore. was just afraid i'd rip the lens right off!!

ME too.. same problem. Thought it was a design flaw and getting pissed and pissed and then I pushed a bit harder and snap... and now the world is a good place. I actually like it more than the screw on 200 lens cover... comes off and on much quicker. I think overall these cams are much more better designed.

Thank God that they redesigned the component connection.. that one one on the HVX was aweful and would always fall off and crap.
