HPX170, HVX200a, and Premeire?

Hello!

Im new to this board and have been doing alot of research through here that has helped me enomously!

But now I bring up that age old question,(ok maybe not that old) Which Camera is better? The Hpx170 or Hvx200A?

Now when I say "Better" I'm looking for the sharpest, best color, least nosie and better in low light. So Far I have been leaning towards the HPX170, But have been detured abit because of "Issues" I have read that other's are having with there cameras. Such as, the "Lens Wobble" and having to reset the file menu so the camera is "Less Nosiey."

This kind of scares me. I do not want to get a camera,(as good as it is) that is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Does anyone know if these issues are fixed??

Oh and also I will be getting the new Adobe CS4 to edit on. Will CS4 work well, and read the HPX170 smoothly??

Thanks in advance!

-Christopher

Hi Chris, welcome to dvxuser,

We run 2x HVX202's (NOT a version) a HPX172 and a HPX502
The question you asked has been answered countless times on here if you use the search feautre in the top right you'll get lots of posts re this, how ever, ever since prem 3.2 the editablity of DVCPROHD content created by all of the P2HD fleet is outstanding. anything higher than a Pentium D will just love the footage its the perfect medium of compression and for prem beats the crap out of any HDV, JVC or Sony can serve up.

P2CMS by panasonic is the perfect way to manage your footage and its free, providing both backup and export fucn that fit with prem nicely.

HVX200a
-Retains a MiniDV deck, HPX170 does not
-Has a 82mm filter thread size, HPX170 has a 72mm

HPX170
-Has an on board Vectorscope and Waveform monitor
-Has Three different methods of focus assist
-Has a 28mm (35m Eqvilant wide lens)
-Is lighter and more compact
-Has a six pin locking FW connector (awesome for onloc or Firestore use)
-Has an HD-SDI port (Very tasty for black magic/aja cards for green screen)

Both Have 2 P2 slots, recording in the same formats and I think it sensitrivity is very simliar,

There is NO lens wobble that i have expereniced are you reffering to rolling shuttter?, both of these cameras are CCD and have not issues like this

Personally i miss the weight of the 200 but the improvements in the 170 outweight that, focusing is better the color is just as good, the low light is far better that the 200 (again 200 not 200a) and the new antismear is excellant)

Now when I say "Better" I'm looking for the sharpest, best color, least nosie and better in low light.

I believe the insides are the same so there isn't a difference between the 200a and the 170. take some time and search the forum.
