also the HVX "groans" ..actually all movie cameras make a noise since their invention....especially those 16 and 35 mm film cameras....*cynic mode on :totally unusable and to be returned to that crooked company arri right away *cynic mode off....thats why the blimp was invented....thats why the boompole and the shotgun mic were invented....
 
wow, thanks for the info, but, I doubt the 170 could support the weight of the sound baffle that I used with my 16.

I too put my ear to the barrel and hear an odd sound every time I rotated the focus ring and then let go. I turned off all focus assists and the sound was no longer heard. (But there were still other general sounds.)
