hpx170 for landscapes?

I have always been curious about the autofocus performance on the hpx300 (now that we kind of are on topic) AF performance depends on the lens attached?

Interesting fact, the focus hunting on the hpx170 is not that bad, not that I use it often, but it has served me well when needed

Lets hope your fast action sports aren't too fast because auto focus sucks on the hvx200/hpx170.

I film a lot of skiing, but I never use autofocus. Ever. Besides, I've been getting more into landscapes/nature type stuff, so I don't see how it could be an issue.

Or are you saying that you think for $8,000 the camera should shoot higher-def than 1080p? Because the Sony F35 is a $350,000 camera, and it shoots a maximum of 1080p...

I realize there are cameras that cost 6 figures that also shoot a maximum of 1080p, and even then, I would have zero interest in those cameras as well. If I'm going to spend around $10k on a camera, I would much rather just wait for the RED Scarlet. I've never been remotely interested in this whole HD craze until I saw what RED was doing with their cameras. I'm not too impressed with the p2 cameras, resolution wise. I just personally wouldn't describe 1080p as being "high definition," unless when using industry terms, since technically 1080p is "HD." My focus is color and tone, and while 1080p may not be too sharp for me, I have no problem with it since I like a soft image. It's like filming a dream. The only reason I'm getting a p2 cam is for the color, and so that my footage will be "acceptable" due to its resolution. In all honesty, I would have no problem shooting a camera that is 720x480 as long as it was true progressive and had great color space, but that simply isn't possible with cameras currently on the market, so the expanded resolution is sort of an unintentional bonus for me I guess! haha

Really? Canon a1 smokes it in all my fast action experiences. You point that cam at your target and it's almost instant while the hpx will 'hunt' and take much longer. Try it on cloudy days where everything is gray, the hvx/hpx won;t know what to focus on.

This may or may not be true, but I'm not going to buy an HDV camera over a p2 cam with 4:2:2 color just because the autofocus is slightly better. the hpx smokes the a1 in just about every aspect, from my experiences.
