HPX170 audio question

I just got my HPX and I'd like to get some feedback from those with more experience using it. I've shot on the DVX and HVX200 for years and I know that you need to be in the red a little to get better audio on those cams. Today I did some audio testing on my new 170 to see what levels to aim for. It seems like you want to be just beyond the 2nd (middle) line but not reaching the red. Anyone care to share their experience with this.

Also, on the DVX I always used mic level if I didn't have a mixer feeding camera and line level if I had a mixer. Any reason that would change on the HPX?

Thanks much.

On the HPX170, there is no red on the meters, the meters are all white. The only time you see red is if the audio is actively actually clipping, so on an HPX170, red = you're dead, so don't let it show up red.

Definitely don't let it go red. You want a good healthy signal but not overmodulated, and clipping = death in digital audio.
