I'm a new registered user to the community. I've used this forum for info over the years and I've found very helpful. So, I decided to join and make a contribution and pick all your brains. I've been using the 170 for a few years now (had used the 200 for a few years before that) and I love it. However, I've just changed some of my lighting to florescents. Rosco lite pads and kino flo 400 divas. Obviously, flou have the green spike and I've tried the gel thing and it doesn't seem to work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on scene settings, white balancing or lighting techniques to solve the problem.

i thought it was LEDs that had that issue? ive been shooting with divas for years and never had a problem...

I have a few LEDs and they do have a bit of a green spike, too. I'm wondering if it's the way the 170 deals with flourescents? In general, my white balances do not seem to be true all the time with Diva's and Lite Pads. I suppose it could be in my scene setting, too.

I'm using the "cafe" scene setting. I primarily shoot restaurants and food.

Phantom,

I am just getting into using flos and plan to purchase some LEDs shortly.

Are the flo bulbs you are using standard types or color corrected. If they are hardware store types, you will want to ditch those. The 3200k bulbs I have for my Cool Lites 4x55s are pretty good, with no apparent spike. They have 5600k daylight flos also, but haven't used them. There is good info about bulb color on the Cool Lites site. If you use temp corrected bulbs, you would not want to use the flo matrix on the 170 as this will send your colors wonky. With temp corrected bulbs, use a standard matrix and then white balance the cam and everything should work out.

On your scene file, you might also want to avoid auto knee and skin tone detail since both can affect color, try mid or high. Low can really change color since it will kick in at nearly normal exposure and the auto setting may change on you anytime.

I can't help you as much on the LEDs due to lack of experience, but from what I have read, a -1/2 green (magenta) gel will help.

Shot dozens of set ups this year with Diva 400s in Tungsten and Daylight never a green spike. They do go a bit magenta when dimmed too far but never a green spike.
