HPX170 - A Second Look

I read a previous post somewhere around here where someone said they doubted the HPX came with any P2 cards and/or Barry's book. Here's a quote from the Panny site:

"The HPX170 comes standard with the following items (in the United States only): AJ-P2C0016RG 16GB P2 card, The HVX and HPX Book by Barry Green, 5400mA battery (140 minutes), AC adapter/battery charger, accessory mic holder, component video cable with RCA-BNC adapters, remote control, shoulder strap and instruction manual."

Someone had written a meta data program for the HVX which would log your takes scene 1 take 1, take 2, etc. Is that any easier to do on the HPX or do you still need to load a similar meta data program?

Hi,

The metadata program would be either the P2CMS, or P2 Log. Both of these can create Metadata for upload from the SD card. The 170 also has the ability to allow you to enter the metadata at the camera head just before shooting. Proper setting of a few key itmes will increment the clip numbers.

I sure hope the HPX170 arrives before the very last day of September. I sold my camera before its stock dropped. But if the 170 includes the updated book from Barry, I would think Barry will need some time to work with a 170 camera and revise and print the book that's going to be in the package.
 
The cameras will arrive before the last day of the month, you need to work with your dealer to get delivery on one, assuming that they get enough to cover their back-orders. And yes the camera does come with Barry's new book. He has had ample time to work with the camera and I would say that he probably knows the camera better than I do at this point.

The copies of the Book are already in Japan.

Seriously, the HPX170 represents such as great upgrade and a huge price drop from the initial HVX200.

We paid close to $8K for a cam and 8 Gb card 27 months ago.
 
pNative out firewire isn't part of the spec.

But FS-100 v.4 will strip out redundant frames on the fly to capture the equivalent of pNative.

That's been available for a year easily.
 
Right, but that would have the camera in regular P mode.

we want the camera in N mode, and pushing N out. Do I have this wrong?
 
You have the camera in 24PA mode, it pushes PA out, and the Firestore strips the extra frames and stores it as 24PN, using the same storage space as needed to store 24PN on a P2 card.

PN going out the firewire as a stream is not possible. Firewire streaming is looking for 60 frames or 30 interlaced frames. Those are the basic rules in Firewire.
