Hpx lens hood design flaw

One design modification made from the HVX to HPX170 was the lens hood. Instead of having a tightening pin to secure it to the lens, it can now easily be bumped off, or fall off in run-n-gun shooting situations. WHY DID PANASONIC DO THIS?

What solutions are there? Simply taping it is too ghetto, and nearly impossible since it is right by the focus ring...

Jan, can you please chime in on this?

Are you twisting it until it clicks into position? If you don't rotate it far enough then I can see that perhaps happening, but if you twist it until it "locks" then I can't imagine how it could fall off or be bumped off. It clicks very solidly into place.

EUREKA! Just twist harder!

EUREKA! Just twist harder!

Just found out from another forum that you simply have to twist it on harder, and it will lock into place. I was too afraid to do this before because of the lens wobble stuff.

I have the opposite problem, this beast is on like glue, can someone tell me exactly how to pull/twist on it for it to come off? I see parts of the lens flexing and that scares me greatly.

Lens hood is tight

Lens hood is tight

I'm having the same problem as BrettR; I'm not a weak guy and I feel like I'm using a whole lot of pressure turning the lens hood but it's not budging. I'm worried that I'll mangle the lens if I go full out. Are the hoods on really tight from the factory?
Also, just to put my mind at ease, with the lens facing towards you; you turn counter-clockwise like on the dvx100 right?

Looking into the lens, with the viewfinder pointed away from you, yes you'd turn the lens hood counter-clockwise. It really shouldn't take that much pressure. It's a snug snap-fit, yes, but you shouldn't fear breaking anything when turning it.
