Hpx/hvx aspect ratio difference

Just finished a shoot where we though the HPX and HVX had matched settings for recording, but upon import the HVX is 4:3 and HPX170 is 16:9....what button didn't get pressed?

As far as editing goes, is there anything that can be done on ingestion to get the HVX to be 16:9 and still look good/match the HPX?

Assuming you shot standard-def, you would have to choose an aspect ratio of 16:9 on both cameras, which would be the Camera Setup->Aspect Conv menu setting, you'd want them both on "squeeze" for 16:9.

You could, in post, pillarbox the HVX footage into a 16:9 frame, retaining all its sharpness but having black bars on the side, or you could extract the central 16:9 portion out of the HVX's 4:3 frame (cropping off the top and bottom) and stretch it to 16:9, but that will obviously lose resolution and affect your framing. Or you could pillarbox the HPX footage so that they're both 4:3-within-16:9. Either way, it's going to be a compromise...

Thanks Barry, as suspected.....I was hoping for a magic button of sorts. Considering the options and the straight to DVD output, I think we'll opt to pillar box the HPX to 4:3 - esp needed considering some "radical" color correction between the 3 cams....
btw- I left the Canadian "u" out of color on purpose ;)

Is there such a think as a pillar box overlay? I'd like to keep all 3 video tracks uncropped for ease of re-framing and apply the left/right pillars as a final step....perhaps, outputting the edited file as a QT and pillar boxing the single (long) file separately...
