HPX darkening at the end of the zoom range

I searched for, but couldn't find anything on this. I noticed that when I zoom in, right at the tail end of the zoom it almost looks like the camera irises down. The F stop doesn't change at all, but there is definatly a darkening of the frame when I get to the end of the zoom range. Is this normal? I noticed this on both a HPX bought 2 weeks ago, and also one bought last week, so I'm lost... Any ideas?
Thanks,
Vince

The lens on the HPX loses something close to two stops between wide angle and full zoom. So yes your picture will darken if you started from wide angle at Max aperture.

Are you sure the iris indicator in the VF doesn't change?

the Iris value/setting is divided into smaller increments than can be shown on the VF, so a small iris change (like 1/3 stop, I think) will not necessarily cause a change in the VF.

Like manually setting your aperture between f5.6 and f8 on a 35mm lens, there is no ordinal number for that intermediate setting.
