Hi Everyone,

What settings can I use to remove noise?, i had test shots sent to a smoke to be graded and the director was very unhappy with the amount of noise in the shots, im using the HPX502 with a fuji 17x7.6.

I saw a thread recently about a piece of software for removing noise for p2 but it dissapared

any thoughts would be awesome

Cheers

man, what's up with the noise thing? Second post I've seen today about noise with the 500.

Was the scene lit well?

The hpx500 shouldnt have a noise problem when a scene has enough light, but what gets me is, if your grading on a smoke...why not have your image tech just get rid of the noise?

Well, the HPX-500 is going to have some noise. It's not perfect. If you don't want any noise what-so-ever, you should have spent the extra $30,000 and bought an HPX3000. Yes, there is noise, mosquito noise. I see it too. Most everyone sees it. But what are you comparing it to? Have you tested it against other cameras in the same range?

Supposedly the noise removal from Neat Video looks fantastic. There have been a couple of threads on it and I am extremely impressed. So if you are really worried about it, then buy the $99 program and render away.

There are ways to "help" you reduce noise through the camera's settings, but you're going to have to play with it to see if the noise versus image quality is acceptable to you. Try everything and see what you come up with.

thanks for everyones input so far I love shooting on this thing and am certain I can make it work ill giv e neat video a go, he was comparing it to the nosie on a canon xh1, and no the test shots were not lit properly. any suggestions for a god clean scene file?

I posted this somewhere else, but here ya go:

I have noticed some noise in the blues(sky) and some mosquito noise in shadows with footage shot outdoors in sunlight but it's nothing compared to the noise on the HVX.

Hunter isnt your coring setting back to front? Or am I? Heres the settings Im commonly using

detail -2
v detail +4
detail coring +3

Detail coring should work - negative setting for sharper image (more noise) - positive setting for noise reduction. Just wanted to clarify that.

Nope, I put my coring levels down. I dont like the look of the camera with the coring levels high, It looks not so good on a big screen.
