HPX-500 & Redrock microMattebox

ya the only thing that bugs me about the RR MB is the rubber donut that connects to the lens. this seems so cheesy. it's like the indian MB's on ebay. i think they should take a note from chrosziel on this. fits perfectly to the lens and has rubber bellows. way more pro.

its all about price and accommodating all lens types

Can someone offer advice on a mattebox for the 500 that won't break the bank?

I would like a clip-on and I only shoot in HD so I need 4x5.56 filters. I have found many but I have never used one and I find the process confusing. Many have 1 tray that fits 4x4 and 1 tray that is larger? Any suggestions and recommendations would help -

The RR MM - are those rods in the way of the controls? If you had to throw the camera on your shoulder would it be functional? Thank you

I have the Vocas MB-350 on my HPX-500 and it is rock solid and reliable.

i don't know how wide you shoot but the more common 4x4 size may work for you. my lens is 9mm at the wide end and i don't come even close to vignetting on the sides.

i picked up my mattebox used for $500. it's a chrosziel 4x4 2 stage and came with eyebrow, rods and plate...

Has anyone used this box on the shoulder - it does appear that the rails are in the way of the lens controls? Can anyone confirm this?

Just by looking at it, off the shoulder would be a tough one. But cant say for sure, as long as you can get your hand in there.

I still use a cavision 4 x 4 bellows on mine. I mean a mattebox has two purposes. Lens flare, and filters. Check on both of those, no problems at the wide end as I can make a small bellows adjustment. The big plus is the weight, very light, but that also makes it a little flimsy so I wouldnt recommend giving it hard treatment.

He has long rods in place of the short rods (which are supplied), with the right size rods on the swing away, you could use the lens handgrip without a problem.

can it be adapted to work without the swingaway? it's not like you'll be changing lenses all the time unless shooting with primes...
