How good is the HPX500 in sd pal 50 compared to other SD 2/3 cams
like the 450 and so? How does it compares to spc700/900?
Is it suitible for pro ENG work in sd world?
How would you edit dvcpro50 in an nle as in premiere I dont have a preset for it.
I owned a DSR570, sold it about 8 months ago and purchased the HPX500. I've shot quite a bit of footage so far in SD DVCPro50 and the most impressive difference to me is the color reproduction, I guess it comes from the 4.2.2 sampling as apposed to the 570's 4.2.0. As much as I loved my old Sony I'm extreamly happy with my decision to go with the HPX. I'm not too familiar with the 700/900 but from what I have read and heard the 500 is'nt quite as good.
I just shot a big project in DVCpro25. That's right, not even DVCpro50, because I knew I'd shoot about 4 hours of rushes a day, and I only have 64Gb worth of P2 cards right now.
Anyway, I looked at my footage on a CRT monitor and it really stunned me. And it wasn't even a class A High resolution Reference Monitor.
I regularly shoot ENG in DVcam for a Newsstation on a Sony PDW510p (Xdcam). And I must say, my Panasonic beats the crap out of that Sony
It's more lively, vivid, nicer than the Pdw510p. Off course the DVCpro50 I sometimes shoot, is even sharper and colourful. Like Gary said, it's due to the 4:2:2 sampling.
I'd say go ahead for your SD ENG work. Even the Dvcam or DVCpro25 are suited for ENG broadcasting. Here in Belgium I know a lot of stations that shoot DVcam for news and Digibeta (looks quite like DVCpro50) for there EFP work.
Unfortunately I can't answer your question about Premiere... I only work in Avid and FCP.
I have made a lot of TV programs shooting Dvcpro50 with HPX500. Some of TV engeeniers have been very impressed by color reproducing in HPX500. 4:2:2 2/3 chip is really broadcast quality so the camera is welcome by TVSD with no problems. I have used mostly Cinelike V and B-press gammas.
