HPX 3xx Guidelines

Hi all HPX 3xx people!

After a few month of using my HPX, i think ive learned a lot by tryNerror.
And you too, i guess!

So i thought id be a good idea to collect our experiences in one simple "List" to help "Newbies" or interested people.
Im still happy with my cam, but learned about its limitations....

But im still learning, so i want to share my tips and hope to learn something new/other from you, and maybe we get a useful guideline for us all in the end.

So let me start:

1. Use -3Db, when ever possible. If necessary, you can get until +6 Db without too much noise.

2. Set Master Pedestral not too high. Something around 0.

3. Try to set the iris not too close! You can get horrible soft results! Try to stay between open/2.0 and 5.6, not more. Use ND and Shutter instead.

4. Do backfocussing really serious. If you dont own a good monitor, use Expand Focus.

5. Use Waveform and Vectorscope for adjusting your personal Scene-File. This helps a lot for understanding what youre doing.

6. Firmware should be 9.30 at the moment.

7. Set EVF to B/W, Peaking +7 and LOW to get the best focus-controll.

8. FBC helps by a few Photo-Flashes but cause problems in heavy flashing/strobelights.

9. If you shoot 25p or similar, set the shutter to 50 or equivalent.

So, thats all in the Moment from me. I would be happy to get additional tipps.

Lots of good info Emmet and I concur with most of what you say. Various levels of frustration regarding getting a clean image but it can be done especially using the wave form monitor as you make adjustments to your scene files. That little trick really helped a lot. Thanks again for your post. I hope of few of the other HPX300 users see it.

You can set the Gain levels via the Main Menu, 3. SW Mode. As an example, try -3, 0 +3. To reduce noise to a minimum -3 (and that's as low as you can go) works well.
