HPX 301 BBC Settings

I wonder why this addendum is not on BBC site. I googled but could not find it. Have BBC stopped publishing such information?

Yes, I don't agree with Alan's suggested zebra settings. I also can't get my head around the spot setting on the 301 and I wish it had two seperate zebra settings like the 171. You can dial in two different IRE figures but I can't see a way of choosing them apart. I assume spot shows them both but couldn't see it in practice.

Thanks for the settings but I To be honest don't quite understand them. why is the pedestal
and dynamic range up ? Doesn't that increase noise ? I've used them and they
look good but what was the reasoning behind increasing DRS and pedestal?

I don't like their +4 pedestal setting. The
most I go is +2. Everything starts to look
milky after that.

I do agree with the DNR. It's more like
film.

It has to be said that these are BBC settings for PAL systems at 25fps and as we all know NTSC is a totally different game altogether.

I think that is why there has been a rush to release the 370 as the whole drop frame NTSC system throws a lot more variable's and problem's into the melting pot.

Just sorting the correct frame rate can be a nightmare where as in PAL land it is fixed 25fps all the way.

By the internal waveform the pedestal should be at least -13 to -15. Black then aligns the bottom line. (on my 301 model)
