Hpx 300 Wish List

I have only had several days to evaluate my new Hpx 300 and to say that I am thrilled would be an understatement but... I do have an issue that I would like to add to a "wish list," if such a thing exists and it is:

The WFM (waveform monitor). I have become accustomed, nay, dependent upon the WFM on my Hpx 170 and although it is present on the 300, there is no practical means to view the WFM on the LCD when one's eye is glued to the EVF, given the position of the LCD when open. Therefore, my wish is to have the WFM viewable from within the EVF. Of course, not knowing whether its viewable location is determined by hardware or software renders the viability of my wish fulfillment somewhat tenuous.

I have been informed that the WFM cannot be moved to the EVF. Well, I guess that it's back to zebras!

my wish would be at least 1/2" CCD´s

A 1/2" CCD would most likely escalate the camera into an entirely different price range. But that said, I sold my EX3 (1/2" CMOS) and replaced it with the 1/3" HPX300 and I couldn't be happier with the decision. Frankly, with the exception of an approximate 1/2 stop difference in available light situations in the EX3's favor, the 1/3" 300 is, IMO, far superior to the EX3 and there would not be enough room in this post to list all of its positive attributes, not the least of which is its form factor. In that regard, the EX3 could be likened to a brick with a lens attached.

But I agree with your addition to the wish list and if such an animal were available and affordable I would acquire it in a heartbeat.

My biggest wish wich i think can be easily done by a firmware upgrade is manual White balance like on the hpx2100.

Yep. Heck, i'd be happy with any type of CCD's. The only thing holding me back from selling my HVX200a for it are the CMOS sensors. I shoot lots of sports, and it's just not the right camera. (in terms of CMOS Vs. CCD's)

My 300 wish list (even though I too love the camera)

1. Switch the LCD from it's current highly reflective mirror-like finish to a matte finish like the HPX170 has. 300 LCD is close to useless outdoors, even with a Hoodman.

2. Allow focus assist during recording like the 170 does. FA on pause/standby only is not really useful.

3. Add one or two more P2 slots and put them back on the right side of the camera.

4. Reduce the horrible breathing on the stock Fuji lens. Other than the breathing, it is a really great lens for a stock one.

5. Make the VF detachable. Having that thing hard wired is a PITA for flying or other times when you want to remove the VF.

6. Allow mapping of VFR function to user buttons. I use this function on every shoot with my 170, really missed it on the 300.

When you focus the lens, the image zooms in and out, or "breathes". Not an issue on internal focus lenses, big issue on the HPX300 lens.

There are actually some higher-end lenses that compensate for breathing by tying the zoom motor to the focus action, so as you focus, it zooms to compensate... that'd be sweet on the HPX300 if they could incorporate it... :D
