Skew aside, what about the issue with the rolling shutter? That's one phenomenon I HAVE seen with a CMOS camera quite a few times.
 
Another issue CMOS cameras face is called "flash-banding" where a part of the frame (like the middle section) is partially over-exposed or very bright because the flash went off when that portion of the frame was being "exposed".

And just found this about CMOS versus Film:

The mechanical shutter on a film camera leads to 4 microseconds of skew. The RED One had 9µs which led to issues in certain situations. The Mysterium-X in the Scarlet and Epic will have 5µs so it will be very close to film.

That kind of identifies Barry's idea to compare film to the RED in terms of skew.
