HPX250: HPX 250 now BBC approved

Great news Gary, got a link to that? Any other info on the requirements? I remember there was a set of rules for the HVX 200 for BBC once.

HPX 250 has the same codec as the 300/370 so that is key to it and the 1/3" chip performance is also acceptable. Have asked Alan Roberts who tests cameras for the BBC if he has had a chance to review it.

No limitations on the 250 or 371 as they both tick all the boxes for full Hd production.

The BBC have approved the 250 based on the testing of the 301 and 371 as it has the same chip set and codecs, it is approved for full HD production in house and by independent production companies.

You are welcome, there will not be a test report on the camera as it was approved based on the 301/371, I think that shows the confidence the BBC have in panasonic cameras.

Feel free to test it then Ken and let us know how it performs.

The BBC have passed the camera so I would think that the lens is acceptable for their needs, they would have looked at the spec from panasonic and I doubt if a manufacturer with their profile would produce a camera with a dud lens on it.

For info the original HPX301 test was done with the stock lens and an 18X one that cost more than the camera and performed far better so lens performance can be subjective and more of a variable than the chip set and the codec.

As we all know putting a top flight lens on a mid range camera will improve things but with these mid priced cameras they are designed to a cost level and with certain limitations over more expensive cameras but generally the lens performance is acceptable for the type of general purpose camera that they are.
