HPX 250 in mid light

Still loving my HVX in Bright sunshine / well lit studio stuff

Had lost a bit of my work to 7d operators who still get a really nice look when it gets cloudy
- the 7ds / 5ds / 500s etc
look great almost all the time - while the HVX200 looked great only when it was super sunny - and performance / look became dreary very quickly once clouds started to show up

For those that have had some experience with it -Does the new HPX 250 bridge this gap significantly ?

The Canon DSLR's typically look very contrasty, so in soft light, they will still have some drama, albeit without much shadow detail. When using a video camera, it's important to choose a gamma curve/scene file that is complimentary to the shooting environment. So, don't use a flat gamma curve like Cine D when it's overcast outside. Cine V would be a better approach, unless planning to grade in post.

Other things you can do beyond gamma setting is lowering black level, adding chroma, and adding detail. There is no reason why a Panasonic palmcorder can't look vibrant in overcas/soft light conditions. Panasonic is known for wonderful color reproduction.

An HPX250 has much more resolution than a Canon DSLR in video mode, which makes for a vibrant image in itself relative to a softer DSLR image.

Dino is spot on. Although I have to disagree with the OP about the hvx only looking good in bright sunlight. But thats just me.
