HPX 170 Nd Problems

I just bough a hpx 170 about a month ago and it seems to be working great. It only has 130 hrs on it. I started messing around with the nd filters and when i move it to 1/4 it gets darker. Then when i move it to 1/16 it is normal again. Once I move it to 1/64 it gets dark(same darkness as 1/16). I compared the orginal to my friends hvx and hmc and it is much darker. We are using the same setting too. Could my Nd filter be stuck? Thanks

Put it on auto iris and go outdoors. Zoom all the way out. Set the ND switch to off. Adjust the shutter so that the autoiris chooses f16. Swap the ND to 1/4 and the autoiris should change to f8. Switch the ND to 1/16 and the autoiris should go to f4. Switch to 1/64 and the autoiris should go to F2.

If it does, your ND should be working properly.

I will try to this tomorrow, thanks! I just don't understand why nd off and nd 1/16 are the exact same.

I just went outside and tried this. I put the shutter all the way down to 1/15 and the highest the iris would go is 9.6, i then switched it to 1/4 and the iris went to 4.8, i switched up to 1/16 and the iris went to 9.6, then i switched to 1/64 and the iris went to 4.8. I have plenty of light and there is snow on the ground, so I don't understand why it wont go to f-16. I still think the nd filters may be stuck

Going to 4.8 was right for the 1/4, but if it went back to 9.6 at 1/16, then that's totally wrong, and yes it would imply that there must be something physically wrong with the camera. It should have gone to 4.8, then 2.4, then OPEN.

Ok, i'm probably going to bring it to get looked at soon, do you have any idea what might be wrong?

Well, it sounds like there's something defective with either the filter wheel or the switch...
